Here are five ways to plan the perfect destination proposal
1. Choose a Special Destination Your Future Spouse Will Love
Has your partner been dying to see the Eiffel Tower? It seems like a perfect reason to go to the city of lights for your engagement! Perhaps your love is a daredevil and wants to spend the week surfing and snorkeling in South America?
Whatever destination you choose, make sure that you’ll both love it. You may even consider going somewhere you’ve both been together before. Your first getaway together was to Hawaii? Why not go again and get a chance to relive all those beautiful memories you made on that first trip?
2. Propose Early in the Trip
Proposing while you’re on vacation is so much fun, but whatever you do, don’t wait until your last day there. Propose early in the trip so that you can spend the rest of the trip celebrating your engagement. Show the ring off in your vacation photos! We recommend proposing pretty much as soon as you have had a day’s worth of rest.
If you’ve flown in on the red-eye, wait until everyone’s had a good night’s sleep. Relax a little… take a shower before you start asking any major life-changing questions, ok?
3. Keep That Ring Safe (and secret!)
Trust us; insure that engagement ring before you leave! Any number of freak accidents can happen while you’re traveling. You never know, the ring doesn’t fit snuggly enough. It slips off in the middle of the beach or flies off while they’re hailing a cab.
It’s also important to make sure that you keep the ring close when traveling… put it in your carry-on, never your checked luggage! Not only does check luggage get lost sometimes… but valuables can go missing. There may be dishonest inspection agents with sticky fingers. Hide it in your carry-on where you can always keep an eye on it.
4. Give Your Hotel a Heads Up!
Don’t forget to mention to your concierge that you’re planning on proposing! More often than not, they will go above and beyond to make your stay extra special. You may come back to the room after popping the question to find some champagne on ice and rose petals on the bed.
Those extra special touches can make the trip that much more memorable. Your hotel can’t do this for you unless you let them in on your plans!
5. Hire A Professional Photographer
Do some research or ask your concierge to find a local professional photographer in the area. to document your proposal! We promise your partner will want to have as much documentation as possible. Document your proposal for memories of one of the happiest moments of their lives!
Planning upfront will mean beautiful photos that capture the moment they said “Yes!” for years to come. And while we are on the subject – don’t forget to dress to impress! Make sure you plan a way for both of you to be able to look your best.
Planning on proposing in the middle of an excursion… we actually don’t recommend this. It’s very easy to lose that ring overboard while on a snorkeling trip!
Book a beautiful meal or tell your partner you’ll go out for a fancy cocktail later… then everyone is dressed up – you’ll be glad you did!
